Sean Abramowitz, tLMHC

Sean specializes in couples counseling and trauma therapy. Drawing from his training in EMDR, and his experience as a meditation teacher, Sean incorporates somatic and body-based approaches to personal and relationship transformation. Utilizing techniques such as mindfulness and EMDR to help clients understand and reprocess trauma, he advocates for a trauma-informed approach to individual therapy, as well as relationships and dating.

Apart from these somatic approaches, Sean’s therapy is rooted in the principles of person-centered therapy. He regards clients as experts on their own lives and relationships, and works together with clients to bring about insight, honesty, and compassion with themselves and one another. Sean works hard to avoid pathologizing clients, seeing them as complex people who are struggling and need support, rather than simply mental health diagnoses.

With training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Sean’s focus with couples is to identify and address negative emotional cycles in relationships. He helps partners work together to break out of these cycles through effective emotional expression, reception, and understanding.

Sean is the co-author of the upcoming book The STARS Talk: A Guide to Conscious Relationships. This book offers a sex-positive, consent-based approach to dating, inclusive of the LGBTQ+, Non-Monogamous, and other marginalized communities. Sean is open and affirming of all forms of romantic love and sexuality in his clients.

Outside of his therapy practice, Sean conducts regular personal growth workshops within the community. He is trained as a facilitator of Authentic Relating games, conducting workshops with themes that include authentic touch, meditation, play, nature-based therapy, and authentic connecting. Sean is also a professional artist, and he welcomes the integration of creative expression into the therapy process, with the use of art supplies and musical instruments available during therapy.
